KAMENEV Valerian Konstantinovich

Painter, graphic artist

from noble families. He studied at the school in Novgorod, without completing the course in 1838 he joined the criminal division, then to the provincial office. 1841 lived in Petersburg since the end of 1860 - in Gatchina. Served in the Department of principalities (from 1845 - Assistant Chief of the unit's office), from 1850 - in the Department of Heraldry of the Governing Senate in 1857 - the Ministry of Justice.

From childhood itself was engaged in painting and drawing. 1841 as a foreign student attended classes IAH. In 1848 was promoted neklassnogo (free) artist.

worked as a landscape painter, wrote views of St. Petersburg and the surrounding area (the islands of Peter, Krestovskiy, went hungry), Finland (Helsingfors, waterfalls Kivach, Kyuro). Served portraits (Paul I, Maria Feodorovna empresses and Maria Alexandrovna, Prince PG Oldenburg) for various government agencies. Created a series of images for the Church of the Life Guards regiment Kirasirsky. Engaged etching (DA Rovinsky describes five etchings Kamenev (DA Rovinsky detailed dictionary of Russian engravers XVI - XIX centuries. SPb. 1895. Vol 2. STB. 455 -- 456).

participated in exhibitions in the halls of IAH (1850-1853, 1857-1864, 1867, 1874). In 1853 was recognized as "designated" in academics, in 1857 for the painting "View of Golodai Island near St. Petersburg" was awarded the title of academician.

In the same year, left the service, to devote himself entirely to art and educational activities. In 1859 he traveled to Germany, France, Northern Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, completing the trip many sketches and drawings.

taught art in the Sea Cadet Corps (1858-1864), the Engineering School of Artillery Navy Department, the St. Petersburg seventh gymnasium (from 1862), Gatchina Gatchina orphanage institute and a girls' school (since 1869).

Kamenev's works are in several museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, Taganrog Art Gallery, the Sochi Art Museum and others.
