born in the family of the artist-craftsman, the peasant serf serf SP Yanova. Lived in Moscow. He studied in primary urban school, then in Komissarovkij Technical School, where he graduated in 1874 with the rank of the student rail master. In 1874-1886 (with a break) was in MUZhViZ in Sorokin. In 1884, for the painting "In the dungeon", KT Soldatenkova purchased from the exhibition School, was awarded a large silver medal. In 1886 he graduated from the course with the title of the class artist.
