original artistic skills acquired in the Tula religious school (1890). Studied in MUZHVZ (1900-1911, with a break in 1905-1906) at the Serov, Konstantin Korovin, A. Arkhipov, L. Pasternak; course is not finished. In the years of study became friends with Pyotr Konchalovsky, I. Mashkov, AV Kuprin, AV Lentulov, R. R . Falk, in 1910, together with the union organized a "Jack of Diamonds" (1910-1917, 1927).

lived in Moscow. In 1910-1912 traveled abroad, visited Italy. In 1914 he was called up for military service, was at the front in 1917 discharged. Many travel around the country, visited the Crimea, the Caucasus, in Karelia, Central Asia, the Altai. Regularly worked in the Moscow region. He painted landscapes, portraits, still lifes, in the late 1910's - early 1920's dealt poster. Passed through passion impressionism, post-impressionism, cubism, and in 1920 turned to a realistic manner.

author of memoirs ( "Notes of the artist." Moscow, 1963).

works are in many museum collections, including the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Russian Museum, Tula Regional Art Museum, Karakalpak State Museum of Arts. Savitskiy in Nukus and others.
