KOMOROWSKI Vladimir Alekseevich

Painter, graphic artist, restorer, art theorist

From a noble family, count; the son of the Keeper of the Armoury chamber of the Moscow Kremlin; grandnephew of the poet Д. В. Веневитинова. He spent his childhood in Moscow and Yalta, where he moved after his father's death (1899). He graduated from high school in Yalta.

he Studied at the law faculty of St. Petersburg University (did not graduate), then as a volunteer at the Higher art school of painting, sculpture and architecture under the Imperial Academy of arts. In the mid 1900-х traveled to Italy. In 1909-1910 worked in Paris at the Academies Ф. Коларосси and Р. Жюльена; he took lessons of painting and drawing at В. А. Серова.

Lived in St. Petersburg and at his estate Raksha Tambov province; from 1914 — in Moscow. He painted landscapes, portraits; was created by ornamental designs. Became interested in icon painting and ancient art. Together with Д. С. Стеллецким worked on the iconostasis of the Church on the estate of count А. О. Медема on the farm of Alexandria near Khvalynsk, temple-памятника Sergius of Radonezh on Kulikovo field; fulfilled the image of the Church. One of the founders of the company "Russian icon" and the editor of the eponymous collection.

In 1915-1917 he lived in Tbilisi and Mtskheta; participated in the all-Russian Zemstvo Union on the organization of hospitals for the wounded. In 1917 he moved to the manor Samarina Izmalkovo in the suburbs. Worked as a drawing teacher in rural primary schools.

In 1922 he was arrested on charges of "counterrevolutionary activity", two months was kept in Butyrskaya prison. From 1923 he lived in Sergiev Posad, worked as an artist Commission for the protection of monuments and antiquities of the Holy Trinity-Сергиевой laurels. In 1925 arrested again on charges of "belonging to a monarchist group"; despite a petition for his release — А. В. Щусева, В. А. Фаворского, П. И. Нерадовского, Н. А. Андреева was sentenced to three years of exile, which he served in the city of Ishim Ural region.
