Painter, graphic artist

From a noble family. Formal artistic education is not received. He studied at the Institute of communications in St. Petersburg (1846, did not graduate). He was in military service in Volga Cossack regiment in the Caucasus; in 1848 for health reasons he retired to devote himself to painting. Studied painting and drawing in St. Petersburg under the leadership of Н. Е. Сверчкова (first half of 1840-х), Е. Е. Мейера (end of the 1840-х — 1855), А. И. Мещерского (1872).

Lived in St. Petersburg (up to 1855, 1872) and his estate in the Chernigov governorate (1855-1872). Worked as a landscape painter. Author of painting works: Winter view" (1882), "Look in the Mogilev province" (1883), "the view of the Sturgeon river in the Mogilev province" (1884), "Evening" (1886), "Oak grove in Sestroretsk" (1887), "Near the mouth of Narva river", "After the rain", "Split oak", "Before sunset" (all — 1880-е — beginning of 1890-х) and others. In 1886 был awarded the title of honorary member of the Imperial Academy of arts.

From 1882 — participated in exhibitions. Exhibited at academic exhibitions in St. Petersburg (1882-1889), mobile exhibitions of the Academy in Odessa (1886), Kharkov and Yekaterinburg (both — 1887); 6-й and 7-й the exhibitions of the Society of exhibitions of works of art (1882, 1883).

Work is represented in several Museum collections, among them — Omsk state Museum of fine arts. М. А. Врубеля, Ulyanovsk regional art Museum, national art Museum of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk.
