For visitors who appreciate elegance and beauty of the graphics, opens the second exhibition cycle "Artist and time". It contains the best examples of figure of the greatest masters of the first half of the nineteenth century. Graphic heritage of the romantic era shows the flourishing art culture that served as the standard of excellence for subsequent generations of artists.

Drawings and watercolors contemporaries the heroes of the novel "War and peace" vividly and directly responded to the search for new ethical and aesthetic values. Gave them to relatives and friends, took trip and military campaigns, they decorated the interiors of the aristocratic mansions. Popular new topics and genres: the interior of chamber portrait and self-portrait.

In the era of romanticism to replace the main kinds of urban and Park ensembles of the chamber came the image of the estates. The exhibition presents graphic works of M. N. Vorobyov, Off. Shchedrin, A. P. Briullov, K. I. Rabus, in which is embodied the diversity of the landscape genre. Poesy private life and comfort of the hearth has stimulated interest in the subject of interior in Russian art. Chamber pastel portrait continued to be a fixture of almost every noble house, although it was not as widespread as in the XVIII century. The most interesting pastelitos in 1810-20-е years was A. G. Venetsianov. Bright and attractive phenomenon of the era were portraits, executed in pencil and watercolor. The rise of a pencil portrait is the work of O. Kiprensky, who created a gallery of poetic images of his contemporaries.

P. and A. P. Brullov. In their works there is a new form of watercolor portrait that combines features of magnificence and intimacy.

In the early nineteenth century there was a genre of self-portrait. The image of the temperamental artist-романтика created expressive self-portraits A. O. Orlov. The admiration of his contemporaries acute, full of improvisational brilliance of the brushwork of the artist gave to A. S. Pushkin lines from the poem "Ruslan and Lyudmila": "Take a quick pencil / Draw, Orel, a night and Sechu!"

Part of the exhibited drawings comes from the collection of the P. M. Tretyakov. Works from the collections of his contemporaries Ostroukhov and I. Tsvetkov E. came from the Museum of icons and painting them. Ostroukhov and from the State Tsvetkovskaia gallery. Collection and to this day updated thanks to acquisitions and gifts.
