In MMSI opens an exhibition of works from the collection of the Institute for Relations with Foreign Countries (ifa), Stuttgart: painting, drawing, photography, video, sculpture and installation - only about 400 works by nearly 100 artists

Moscow Museum of modern Art, the Goethe-Institut in Moscow and the Institute for relations with Foreign Countries (ifa), Stuttgart, present a unique exhibition project "Ways of German art from 1949 to the present day " . Painting, drawing, photography, video , sculpture and installation - only about 400 jobs and nearly 100 artists. The exhibition covers 60 years of contemporary art in East and West Germany, giving the viewer the opportunity to take a fresh look at the history of art in general .

Institute relations with Foreign Countries (ifa), opened in 1917 , since 1949 was promoting the arts throughout Germany world and gathered a huge collection of works by artists from West Germany. After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1990, the Fund works of art exhibitions GDR Center also came under the control ifa. Two decades later, the idea to combine both unique collections in a single exposure .

MMOMA The exhibition at the viewer sees the work not only famous German artists , recognized throughout the world ( Joseph Beuys , Sigmar Polke , Gerhard Richter, Andreas Gursky , Bernd and Hilla Becher , Rebecca Horn , Nam June Paik and others) , but the authors who , despite their artistic scale , were not so well-known , and often simply unrecognized for various reasons of a political nature . < /p>

According to the curators , the project is a kind of excursion into the past , look at the intellectual and artistic life of the FRG and the GDR . Taking the impressive collection of contemporary art ifa, curators were able to give an overview of the key moments of artistic life in postwar Germany : participation in the European art movement of the 1950s and '60s Fluxus, the Dusseldorf school of Photography , the movement " New wild " of the late 1970s , figurative art, 1980 , protest art of the late 1990s and early 2000s .

It will have a long journey in which Moscow was the first stop after the starting point - the premiere , held in October 2013 at ZKM /Center for Art and media Technology /( Karlsruhe, Germany ) . More than 400 exhibits are located on two floors MMSI at Petrovka 25. next stop after Moscow becomes Krasnoyarsk .

About curator Matthias Flügge - historian , writer , curator and former vice-president of the Berlin Academy of Arts. Rector of the Higher school of Fine Arts ( Dresden) . Matthias provinces - art critic , curator and former director of the State Kunsthalle Baden-Baden , professor of art history at the Graduate School of Arts of Saarland , Saarbrücken . The exhibition catalog has been published .
