Today the Moscow Museum of Modern Art with the support of the artist's heritage AD Tikhomirov scale exhibition project called "Playing circus" , which became the focus of works of Russian art of XX - beginning of XXI century , united by the theme of the circus . The basis of the exhibition was the collection of MMSI, which complemented the work of the leading public and private collections ( State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Museum of Fine Arts named after AS Pushkin , Multimedia Art Museum , the Museum of Circus Arts in St. Petersburg Bolshoi Circus , Circus Museum of the History of the Union Russian circus figures , the Heritage Foundation , by A. Tikhomirov and others - more than 30 meetings ).

The exhibition in the MMSI collected as landmark work and not previously exhibited . These included the classics of Russian avant-garde ( Alexander Alexander Rodchenko , Vladimir Dmitriev , , , Marc Chagall , Paul Chelishchev ); artists of the second half of the twentieth century ( Alexander Alexander G. Tischler , Alexander Tikhomirov , Natalia Nesterova , Tatyana Nazarenko , Olga Olga Bulgakova , , Konstantin Batynkov ), as well as contemporary artists ( Oleg Kulik , Leonid Leonid Tishkov , Olga Tobreluts , Bratkova and many others) . Work supplemented authentic circus props, costume sketches , documentary photographs and videos .

circus theme in art - it's not just reflection of the plot, but a way of rethinking the world, ranging from drama to comprehensive individual metaphors . Applying circus rhetoric , artists are able to speak the language of frivolous serious subjects . Borrowed from the circus extravaganza , dressing , acting, on the verge of outrageous stunt , trick, an optical illusion , a demonstration of the grotesque and unexpected comparisons greatly enriched the visual practices .

Especially for this project exhibition space MMSI significantly transformed . "Metaphor ", " Drama ", " dressing room ", "Arena" , "The Cage" , "Dream ", " Walk of Fame " - rich , smart space are replaced chamber rooms, make-up rooms and backyards with service props. Circus World opens from different sides and acts as a catalyst for people associations and hidden emotions , forcing reflect on the actual problems .

In the publishing program MMSI to the opening of the exhibition catalog is planned to release in Russian and English languages. In March 2014 a scientific conference organized within the framework of the research program of the museum. April 1, 2014 , a round table - part of an educational program MMSI .
