This refers to a very specific type of publication - is the literary and artistic publication, containing illustrations, executed in the form of original prints (lithography, etching, woodcut, etc.) having a relatively small circulation (from tens to hundreds of copies), printed on special paper and have a definite form (usually Loose-leaf sheets, box, pouch). In most cases, these books signed by the author, artist or publisher.

principal feature of the book artist /livre d'artiste is that the initiators of publications are usually not professional publishers, and art dealers that were interested in publishing. For them, such a book is not primarily a literary text and illustrations. They increasingly view the publication as an opportunity to present the work of artists with whom they work.

The exhibition includes 23 publications issued by Vollard in 1900-1939 years. They contain the original printed graphics 12 artists: Pierre Bonnard, Georges Braque, Edgar Degas, André Derain, Raoul Dufy, Aristide Maillol, Pablo Picasso, Auguste Renoir, Auguste Rodin, Georges Rouault, Paul Cezanne and Chagall. Visitors will be able to see about 350 pages - most of them on display in Moscow for the first time.
