Prior to 28 June in the “Russian Museum photos” Nizhny Novgorod opened exhibition “Russia. XX Century in Photographs: 1900-1917 ”

Up to 28 June in the «Russian Museum photos» Nizhny Novgorod opened exhibition «Russia. XX Century in Photographs: 1900-1917 ». On display are 170 works from a unique multimedia project «Russian Fotoarhivatsiya stories», prepared by the Moscow House of photography. His goal - to trace the actual course of historical process in the last twentieth century, to re-establish a credible image of the events and personalities last time.

The project covers a wide variety of aspects of life in Russia at the beginning of the twentieth century: celebrating 300 years of Romanov's house, February and October revolutions, elections to the State Duma, the events of the First World War, as well as the daily lives of a wide variety of classes -- family holidays, home theater, sports, street scenes ... Widely represented the cultural life of the beginning of the century, reflects its landmark events: the construction and opening of Moscow Arts Theater, the Mariinsky Theater, the departure of Sergei Diaghilev troupe in Nice, giving Voloshin in Koktebel the exhibition «World of Art» ... Particular attention is paid to architecture and urban landscape of Moscow, St. Petersburg and the town of Russia.

The organizers aim to return to our consciousness the reality of historical fact, without his mythological Soviet, anti-Soviet and post-Soviet interpretation. Answer simple questions «that?», «Where?», «Where?». The exhibition helps us to emotionally survive the events of days past and think about the fact that each of us is a direct party to the creation of the history of their country. Every minute of living we have become an invaluable fact of history.

The exhibition presents works by the best photographers of the twentieth century, among them: Carl and Victor Bull, and Nabgolts Sherer, Boasson, and Egler, Gauthier-Dyufaye and Dmitriev, and at the same time, photographs of unknown authors, whose names have not yet appear in the history of Russian photographic art, which is the fault of historical amnesia, and our negligence in relation to history.

Interested in history - is interested in the details. A sense of the meaning of its own existence makes the knowledge of how and what were our parents and grandfathers. The stakes and the measure of our responsibility for what our children see, looking at photos of today's life.
