From the collection of A. S. Sokolin (formerly in the collections of E. Gollerbakh and Sun. Voinov). Petrograd — Leningrad — St.-Петербург. Pre-auction exhibition opens today, may 18

may 26 "House of antique books in Nikitsky" put up for auction a collection of mathematics A. S. Sokolin (1918-1989). The collection was formed in Leningrad in 1940-50-е years and for many years was kept in the family.

the Sphere of interests of outstanding Leningrad collector — books about art, graphic works, mostly created for the decoration of books, cards and bookplates. The scientist was interested in the art of the era, when M. V. Dobuzhinsky, A. N. Benoit, S. V. Chekhonin, B. D. Grigoriev, D. I. Mitrokhin created the aesthetics of the Silver age, and then and the Russian avant-garde, when art historians E. F. gollerbach, Sun. Soldiers, N. Puning, catching the breath of time in the work of these artists valued their contribution to the history of the development of Russian artistic culture.

the Bulk of the collection A. Sokolin was collected with the help of the famous Leningrad collector of Bialik, who apparently backed him in purchasing collections of fragments of E. Gollerbakh and Sun. Voinov's what-то of the stuff was bought in Leningrad antique stores...

the Collection is interesting not only by things, but "connections" uniting things as a collector's ensemble came to us in the form in which was formed over 60 years ago.

Opens the auction section of postcards: more than a hundred and fifty, published by the Community of St. Eugenia with reproductions of famous paintings of artists of the early twentieth century.

the book presents a large number of publications and albums of the early twentieth century, many of them — numbered copies autographed by the authors or owners. In particular, in the catalog of the auction included: the first edition of the poem "Twelve" by Alexander Blok in 1918 (instance 152/300, lot 51); "Fourteen drawings Ukrainian ABC" G. I. Narbut — inscribed copy with an autograph of the artist brother of the poet Vladimir Narbut, addressed to N. Chernyagina (lot 54); inscribed copy of "Tsar Dodon" by A. Remizov, with author's inscription Leningrad bibliophile I. D. Galaktionov (instance 26/333, lot 56); copy of the book "my Sister life" autographed by Boris Pasternak (lot 85); the rare anthology "the Image of Akhmatova", published edition of 50 copies (lot 95).

Among the autographs is worth mentioning especially the autograph of the poem by E. Gollerbakh with a dedication to D. A. Radlova (lot 237), G. Mann's autograph on the novel "the Son" (lot 52); autograph of the artist A. I. Kravchenko on the book "Ex libris. Bookplates and projects to them..." (lot 69); autographs A. Efros on "the Erotic sonnets" (lot 66) and the book "Mr. Bergeret from Staritsyna" (lot 105), the autographs of V. Lebedev and N. Punina on the exhibition catalogue by V. Lebedev 1928 (lot 122).

In the collection of book marks, previously owned by E. Gollerbach, except the ex-libris of Henri Matisse to the family of S. Shchukin 1911 (lots 164, 165), you can find bookplates, made almost all the artists of the Association "World of art" artists of the Moscow school 1920-х and Russian foreign M. V. cotter closed up his hand, L. Bakst, D. I. Mitrokhin, K. Somov, A. N. Benoit, A. P. Ostroumova-Лебедевой, G. I. Narbut, S. V. Chekhonin, E. S. Kruglikova, V. N. Masiutin, Y. P. Annenkov and others.

In Lota 190 collected book marks, made by E. F. Gollerbach, and lot 191 includes bookplates, made by different artists for him and his family members.

the portrait Sketch of mark E. Gollerbakh executed by the artist E. D. a white whale in your favorite erotic fashion customer. Original drawing accompanied the prints, painted by the artist, and the proofs (lot 189). Lots 173, 174, 175 — almost complete collection of book marks, S. V. Cehennem made in 1910-20-е years.

Poet Lidia Averyanova, bringing the gift of E. F. Gollerbach your bookplate, on the back he wrote four stanzas of the poem "the Exchange" 1925 (lot 184).

In the section of original and printed graphic works presented by M. V. Dobuzhinsky, including a portrait of the artist Konstantin Somov, 1913, in the technique of silhouette Tushev (lot 210), a sketch of calendar for 1909 symbolist with mythological composition (lot 211) and the city skyline, 1915 — rare autolithograph, signed by the artist (lot 255); master drawing and gouache paintings by Boris Grigoriev 1910-х years (lots 215 and 216), several works by V. Belkin, one of which — sketch illustration to the poem by G. Chulkova "Mary Hamilton" 1922 (lots 219, 220, 221).

the Arm of S. V. Chekhonin belongs a portrait of the artist V. E. Tatlin, 1920 (lot 127) and the sketch cover to the book E. Gollerbakh "State Porcelain factory" in 1922 (lot 218).

From the collection of E. Gollerbakh happen and two gouache sketch of book cover D. I. Mitrokhin, donated by the author to collector (lots 228, 229).

the auction features nine lithographs from the series "Pictures of Russian history" I. Knebel (lots 259-267). This series was created in the years 1908-1912 the famous artists of the Silver age as textbooks for grammar schools, but the colorful lithographs, acquired not only academic institutions but also private persons to decorate the interiors. The series consisted of 50 lithographed paintings, a complete set today is only stored in the collection of the graphs of GIM. These sheets are extremely rare and usually in collectioncom condition.

Series of etchings "the Rains", released by the artist V. D. Falileev in 1918 (lot 270), rightly considered one of the best and most rare works of the artist in the printed schedule. Falileev printed only 10 copies of the folders, copy from the collection of Sokolin wears number 9.

a Series of miniature views of the Crimea "Chufut-Кале", engraved by P. A. Shillingovsky in 1926, was donated by the author E. S. Kruglikova in the day of her birth (lot 283).

Etchings by Pablo Picasso — illustration of the "Metamorphoses" of Ovid — traditionally decorated with monographic exhibitions of the great European modernists. Folder with the complete opus of 30 etchings was issued in Switzerland by the publisher A. Skhirat; on the auction block this instance 4/110, signed and numbered by the publisher (lot 311).

In the decorative section-прикладного art shows murals of Calvary, made by a French sculptor Mathieu Justina in the 1850-х years (lot 312). Panels is interesting not only material and technique, but also history. It was purchased at the world exhibition in Paris in 1855 Kovno Governor Vladimir Ivanovich Azimovym and was hereditary in his family. Collector A. S. Sokolin bought panels-grandson Nazimova M. S. Bormann, as evidenced by the inscription in pencil 1930 on the inner frame.
