Paired portraits of Martin Almanza and Open Coppit not left the territory of France since 1877. The public protests against a possible sale

Baron Eric de Rothschild decided to sell two portrait by Rembrandt, valued a total of 150 million euros. We are talking about the portraits of Martin Almanza (Maerten Soolmans) and Open Coppit (Oopjen Coppit), painted by Rembrandt shortly before the wedding of this young and pairs in 1634. Sale promises to be sensational, as the portraits did not leave the territory of France since 1877, when they were bought by Baron Gustave de Rothschild. For all time of stay in the Rothschild collection, these two portraits were rarely provided on vystavki@

Eric de Rothschild has already received approval for the export of paintings from the Ministry of culture of France and the Louvre, as reported by the newspaper La Tribune de l'art. Of its journalists were outraged that neither the Ministry nor the main Museum of the country tried to give the portraits of Rembrandt the status of national heritage - this would allow the deferral of up to 30 months for the export of paintings from the country. The authors go even further, accusing Eric de Rothschild that he betrayed his great ancestors, patronizing French museums. "He had to go to the Ministry and to the Louvre and to negotiate a reasonable price instead of chasing profits. <...> Eric de Rothschild is a member of the society of friends of the Louvre. Well, friend!", - reports La Tribune de l'Art.

the Louvre and the French Ministry of culture has already managed to speak in their defense. According to their representatives, they were not sure of being able to find the necessary sum in just 30 months. This answer is not surprising: cultural institutions of France are now suffering from lack of funding and even resort to extraordinary means like public fundraising (crowdfunding@

Despite noise in the press, the prospect of a sale of paintings by Rembrandt still looks foggy. The Rothschilds received permission to export paintings, but no details about the future of work is not razglashat@

to interested buyers will not be difficult. "If [the paintings] get on the art market, it will be very interesting to see this; [Rembrandt] wrote very few portraits in full growth," says Gregor from Webber Rijksmuseum@
