the History of the art collection of the Austrian branch of the Rothschild family complete restorative twists and turns. Their collection, purchased with money from the banking business, mining and railway construction, was comparable with the collection of Prince Liechtenstein. But it was all removed from their Viennese Palace by the Nazis in 1939, during the Anschluss. The family fled to the United States via Switzerland and England. And their collection at that time was run by the Nazis. Some of the most valuable works were selected for the planned Führer Museum in Linz. However, when the allies began bombing of Vienna, the collection was hidden in salt mines in the suburbs. 3 500 works were subsequently returned to the Rothschilds. But the happiness of the family was incomplete: the 250 most valuable work they were forced to "give" the Austrian government in exchange for permission to take the rest of the collection in the USA. And only in the late 1990s, after the signing of the Washington agreements on the promotion of restitution collections of Holocaust victims, this portion of the meeting returned Rotchild@

Many of the returned items were for the next year sold at auction for almost $ 90 million. The rest of the collection now promised the Boston Museum of fine arts. The choice of Bettina Burr fell on this institution, because the girl she was there for practice, and in the mid-1990s, joined the Board of Trustees of the Museum. Now deceased mother Bettina, the daughter of Alphonse and Clarissa, even when life is fully endorsed this choice. "My mother agreed that it would be good," says the administrator. All these things will be here together. They will not be scattered to different corners of the world to be hidden in the living room all the nobles. They will be here, if people want it, and I know that they will take care of properly obrazom@
