18 July in a place Rihen near Basel after a long illness died sobiratelnitsa famous modernist art Hilda Bayeler (Hildy Beyeler). She was 86 years old. Together with her husband, Ernest Bayelerom (Ernst Beyeler), she has assembled one of the finest art collections in Switzerland. The couple founded the gallery and the foundation, where you can see paintings, sculptures and graphics from their collections.
Collection Bayelerov has about forty-two high-quality artists. Most of these artists are recognized classics of modernism. According to pictures within the assembly, it is possible to trace the entire history of art of the late XIX - mid XX century: from late Impressionism, Claude Monet (Claude Monet) through Postimpressionism Paul Cézanne (Paul Cezanne), and Vincent van Gogh (Vincent Van Gogh) and the cubism of Pablo Picasso ( Pablo Picasso) and George Marriage (Georges Braque) to such masters of modernism, like Joan Miro (Joan Miro), Piet Mondrian (Piet Mondrian), Wassily Kandinsky , Henri Matisse (Henri Matisse), Max Ernst (Max Ernst) and Paul Klee (Paul Klee). The collection includes the works of American abstract expressionists Mark Rothko (Mark Rothko) and Barnett Newman, as well as some significant artists of the second half of XX century, such as Georg Baselitz (Georg Baselitz), Anselm Kifer (Anselm Kiefer) and Fabry Luciano (Luciano Fabro).
In addition, Ernst and Hilda Bayeler collected sculptures from Africa, Alaska, Oceania.
The couple gave his collection of more than 50 years. In his Gallery (Galerie Beyeler) they were selling the work of many famous artists, and began to put off those that could not or would not want to sell. In the 1940's in the gallery began the exhibition, where it was possible to see the Japanese prints, drawings, and post-impressionist painters, as well as graphics, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec). Bayelery been extraordinarily successful gallery owners, and the purchase of such works as, for example, «Improvisation number 10» Vasily Kandinsky, helped lay the basis for his stunning collection. Spouses friends with many artists such as Pablo Picasso, whose work (along with works by Paul Klee), the backbone of the collection.
In 1970, Ernst and Hilda Bayeler thinking about a non-profit institutions, where they could display paintings and sculptures from his collection. But so far that they were only plans. In 1989, at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture of Spain, the wife for the first time decided to put work. The exhibition was organized by the Center of Art Reina Sofia in Madrid and was a huge success. And in 1997 the building, that the famous architect Renzo Piano (Renzo Piano), opened the Museum Foundation spouses Bayeler. Now he is one of the best museums in Basel. The majority of works in the collection of Ernst and Hilda Bayelerov - paintings, but there are also sculptures. Contemporary Art of the spouses did not collected, but sometimes it is on display in their fund, unless the context of a dialogue between different generations of artists. A striking example of such a dialogue - going now exhibition of Fernand Leger (Fernand Leger) . The Fund Bayeler spouses are various lectures and other events. One of the most popular programs is the Special Focus, where actors from the Basel Theater to read the works of an artist of his literary opuses or texts on it.
