Paris art market this year has shown very solid results. Despite the difficult economic situation, the number of auctions and submitted them lots remained the same as last year. Moreover, the income from the auction held in the French capital in the first quarter of 2009, up more than London and New York. In autumn 2008, nearly half remained unsold lots, but now the figure is less than 40%. At the tender pieces of modern art Sotheby's, held on 28 May, has sold 95,2% of works. In the first quarter of the year, prices for works of art in France decreased by only 5% and since then there are the same.
The main reasons for success are: first, the French bid is much lower sverhdorogih work than in New York and London (respectively, the market is less speculative), and secondly, Paris Christie's held a few incredibly successful auctions. Chief among them, of course, the sale of collections by Yves Saint Laurent (Yves Saint-Laurent), and Berger, Pierre (Pierre Bergé).
Trades objects from the collections of the great couturier and his loved one had the whole 373.5 million euros at estimeyte 200-300 million. This represents 53.2% of the proceeds of all the French auction house for the year 2008! Alone works of art brought entire 255 million euro. Paris auctions Christie's and Sotheby's, held in late May, have been quite successful, though, without sensationalism. The French auction houses themselves occasionally show remarkable results. The previous record for the «thought» of 2.7 million dollars (1.86 million euros). Another work of Rodin, «Little Eva», also far exceeded estimeyt.
